What if circumstances were different, and Jake and Heather had met long before the school bus? An alternate version of the Jericho Pilot episode with Jake and Heather in an established relationship.
I lost you for a while after the JFF board closed, and now you have added some new chapters! Will you be continuing this story?? Please??
Funny you should ask about that.... After over a year in which I wrote almost nothing (work unfortunately ate my life) I'm finally getting back to working on Different Circumstances. I've just sent the latest chapter off to be beta'd, so look for a new installment sometime in the next week or so.
Although I haven't been actually writing for awhile, these characters are never far from my thoughts, always giving me more of their story and pushing me to tell it. Hopefully now that I'm writing again, I'll be able to make regular updates and get more of that story told.
Thank you for asking after DC! It's good to know there is still some interest in the story out there. It's good impetus to write. :-)
Woohoo! Very exciting. Thank you so much!!
What if circumstances were different, and Jake and Heather had met long before the school bus? An alternate version of Jericho with Jake and Heather in an established relationship. A retelling of the Jericho episode Fallout.
Canoodling! And the "It Ain't Easy Being Green Club"!! Love, love! Fun memories. I just love your version of Jericho!! I'm trying to read slowly, but I think I have to read just one more chapter today . . .
What if circumstances were different, and Jake and Heather had met long before the school bus? An alternate version of Jericho with Jake and Heather in an established relationship. A retelling of the Jericho episode Four Horsemen.
Adorable!! Love the flashbacks!!
She finally told him! Hooray!!
I know I'm a lot late responding to this, but I have to say that I couldn't have Heather tell Jake earlier because I was still leaving myself an out. Luckily, I bit the bullet... so much of their story was coming to me and Baby Green is an integral part of their story. :-)
Reading this again for the first time in almost a decade! I still love it. I can't believe how many details I lifted for the story I wrote! OK, I can believe it, I was actually going to ask if I could borrow the character of Mikey, and several other things, but I wasn't able to connect with you.
Any chance that you're still going to be adding chapters? I wish you would!!
Hi merryann,
Thank you for leaving a review. I still have this story kicking around in my head, but I don't have the energy to tackle writing any of it down. Maybe when I retire some day.
What if circumstances were different, and Jake and Heather had met long before the school bus? An alternate version of Jericho, in which Jake and Heather are married and expecting. A re-telling of the Jericho episode Walls of Jericho.
"You're gonna call me that for the next seven months, aren't you?" Heather asked, groaning.
"You better believe it," Stanley grinned.
LOL!!
Ahhh, now I remember that Jake was undercover with Jonah. Makes a lot more sense!
Here is my alternative universe of Jericho. This story is about as AU as they come. Welcome to my world! Jake plus one comes back home.......
Very nice! I have enjoyed your story, but I can't believe we don't get to find out if the new baby will be a boy or girl! Or how they get rid of martial law. Any plans to continue the story??
I read all the way through this story recently, not knowing it wasn't complete. Ugh! I would have tracked you down and asked, but I figured you were long gone. Great to have an update! Looking forward to more!! (Do I need to keep going???) Really, there are so few well-written Jericho stories coming out now . . .
Thanks so much for reading and reviewing, merryann. I truly do appreciate it! :)
What if circumstances were different, and Jake and Heather had met long before the school bus? An alternate version of Jericho in which Jake and Heather are married and expecting. A re-telling of the Jericho episode Black Jack.
I loved every bit of it, Marzee! (OK, at least the loveable parts, lol!) I'm relieved to know that Heather will not be going to Black Jack or New Bern (I don't mind being spoiled a bit). Her health and the health of the baby are far too important! Drag Harry along if need be!
The farm story was very poignant, but necessary, I think, to get Heather's attention. I won't dwell there or I'll be having bad dreams, too.
Looking forward to more!!
Hugs, Merryann
Thanks, Merryann!
I just couldn't see any way where pregnant Heather at Black Jack was going to work, and Jake is certainly (rightly) against it. The Black Jack contingent is forming and will depart soon.
More coming soon. :-)
Adorable! Loved the 5 years ago parts and the resolution of the disagreement.
The crew leaving for Blackjack was very poignant. It's an uncertain world they live in!
Washing sheets ~ that would be a chore!
Loved the Star Wars references!!
Looking forward to more!
Thank you, merryann!
I always wondered why they didn't do a scene with Gail sending Johnston and Jake off to Black Jack on the show. It seemed like a lost opportunity. But, then again, no one seemed to think it was that big of a deal that they were going... just another day trip, I guess. I couldn't not have them mark the occasion, though.
More on the sheets to come (believe it or not) and some gratuitous mushy interactions between Jake and Heather as they both are so relieved to have made up. :-)
Love all of the details and banter! April and the roses, Gail & Heather and the What to Expect When You're Expecting, the grim reality of Blackjack. Great job all round!
Looking forward to more! Thanks for writing, Marzee!!
Thanks, merryann!
This was fun to write, the banter especially. As for the roses, I don't think we've heard the last of them. More soon. :-)
What if circumstances were different, and Jake and Heather had met long before the school bus? An alternate version of Jericho in which Jake and Heather are married and expecting. A re-telling of the Jericho episode Heart of Winter.
OK. I'm finally caught up to where I left off ~ more than 2 years ago? I was thinking how amazing it is that a show that was on for only 29 episodes and went off the air more than 5 years ago still captivates so many (including me and many friends & family members!)
Anywho ~ love the continued vigilance of the Vice and Virtue Squad. He may have just nudged things over the brink this time! Hooray!!
All of the after-the-bomb parts of the story were poignant. Doesn't Stanley have fresh milk to share with the Greens? Or eggs? Or animals to be butchered? Just seems like a farmer would have been thinking ahead and already had enough food for the animals for the winter by September (This goes for the dairy farm family, too) My complaint is with the show, not you, btw.
On the topic of the migration trail, why wouldn't they have just shot the dogs and called it a successful hunting trip? Too taboo? Maybe take them to the Richmond Ranch to be butchered so that none other than the hunting party realized they were not deer or rabbit? I think I would if I were in their shoes (and at least it isn't THEIR pet). My husband has always been a planner for the worst-case-scenario, and watching Jericho started my interested in being prepared, also. We have a long way to go, but I sure enjoyed having a generator & other supplies during Hurricane Ike!
One more thought. I know I have quite a few more chapters to read, and it sounds like you have more in progress, but please feel free (from my prespective, anyway) to continue in your AU ways and NOT kill of April and then Johnston. I can see why the show did it, but your April has the help of the med students and isn't so overworked *Ü* Just a thought . . .
Thank you for all the effort you have taken in writing!!
What if circumstances were different, and Jake and Heather had met long before the school bus? An alternate version of Jericho in which Jake and Heather are married and expecting. A re-telling of the Jericho episode Semper Fidelis.
I can't tell you how relieved I am that the hunters bagged a couple of deer, and that there was another food drop. I have been obsessing over what they would eat, lol! I was remembering Bonnie's rabbit project of 5 years ago . . . I also loved the way the town council members handled Gray and the chickens/garden/farmers issue. Strong work!
The various scenes surrounding Jake & Heather's engagement are adorable!! Looking forward to seeing how Jake's "meet the family" weekend goes!!
Almost caught up ~ so sad! Hope you're still working on those additional chapters *Ü*
Happy Thanksgiving!!
Loved hearing the story of the senior Richmonds. Very sad; made a lot of sense.
"Five years old, knew the whole alphabet and was not afraif to use it!" Great line! Sounds like my little one, may have to borrow it for her scrapbook.
Maggie & Michael ~ who would have thought?! I'm glad Heather & Jake are tallking again!
I think I'll save the last installment for tomorrow . . . *Ü*
Oh, and you left us with a cliffhanger!
Loved hearing about the Lisinski family's early years. I'm glad they like Jake!
Looking forward to more installments!!
Your timing is perfect! I pushed the "return to story" button, and viola! But another cliffhanger?? Arg!
Love the 5-years-ago parts. They couldn't avoid the "lost in your eyes" moments to save themselves, cound they?! The sisters-in-law are funny.
Again, thanks for writing, and I hope to see more soon!!
Hooray! You're writing again, and I had enough internet access to find your new chapters & enjoy them. As per your usual, love every bit of it. Will try to review the next chapter from a computer (not a phone...) so I can leave a more detailed review.
It's great to see you're still with me, merryann. :-)
Glad to hear that you're enjoying the continuing adventures of the DC Greens. Thanks for leaving me a note, I do appreciate it!
Marzee
Oh, just wonderful!! Loved it to pieces and can't wait for you to write more! I am so glad you are continuing your wonderful story.
I'm not sure if you ever got my message way back when (early 2012?) giving you credit for inspiration and asking if I could borrow a couple of themes. I have now been writing my own ridiculously long story for almost 2 years. It is posted at fanfiction dot net; please check it out if you ever have spare time :)
Thank you once again for writing!!
Thanks for reviewing, merryann! It's great to know that I still have readers interested from "way back".
I honestly don't remember if I got a message from you back during 2012, that was a rough year for me with both my parents ending up in the hospital within 9 days of each other. They are both doing well now, but it was a tough row to hoe as the primary caregiver for both of them, and fanfic took a definite back seat to icky real life.
That said, I did take a peek at your story one day, and did note a few homages to Different Circumstances, so thank you for that. :-)
What if circumstances were different, and Jake and Heather had met long before the school bus? An alternate version of Jericho in which Jake and Heather are married and expecting. A re-telling of the Jericho episode Winter's End.
Clearly I am as behind in reviews as you are in writing. Or perhaps I was miffed that you left us with a cliff hanger :P. Great story, as always! Looking forward to the next chapters!!
Thanks for coming back and checking in, merryann! I do appreciate it. :-)
And, while I apologize for the cliffhangers, I have to admit that there will probably be plenty more of them before I manage to tell the whole story of Different Circumstances.
Now you've done it! You have a slew of new characters that will eventually need sorted ( you do have a spreadsheet, don't you?!). And a lot if circumstances that will need addressed. Looking forward to seeing how you handle all of this! Reminds me of the corners I perpetually write myself into, lol! Always fun to unravel Also, our poor April is still stuck in the cliffhanger! Hoping and praying for a miracle there :). Looking forward with great anticipation to the next chapter!! If you find time on your hands, I would love for you to take a look at my stories over at ff net. Best Regards, merryann
LOL, merryann. Yes, I do have a spreadsheet, plus a set of family trees done in Visio!
I had to pull that trigger and write in the O'Briens (and the Gallaghers) because eventually we will go visit Auntie Bridget for a wedding dress and of course they all want to come to the wedding. So really, it was time to start introducing them. :-)
The April part is the thing that makes my writing slow-going at the moment -- and the reason I keep taking trips to visit other parts of this little world, like the happy past.
Thanks for reviewing!
Oh, my goodness! I was so excited to read your message about an update! It has taken me since yesterday to read the previous chapter and this one. I thought I won the prize for longevity in story-writing (a decade), but now I'm pretty sure the prize goes to you.
What a wonderful update. I'm sorry that Eric and April's baby doesn't make it. I still have hopes for April, but I will understand if you stick to cannon there.
Love all the parts and details about Heather and Jake. And the run-up to the mechanical bull debacle, lol.
Looking forward with great anticipation to additional updates. Please add my name to the list if you need to take down this site (altho I would love for it to remain intact so that I could come back and read it in future).
merryann
Thank you, merryann!
I was glad to be able to connect with a few folks I knew had enjoyed the Differenet Circumstances stories in the past. There was no reason to think anyone was still checking this site, but I took hoped that some of the people who had reached out to me were still using the same email addresses.
You were always so encouraging about this story, so I'm glad I found you. :-)
I'm also glad that you enjoyed this update. I hope to have more for everyone soon. I've added you to my mailing list, and I promise for now this site will remain up, it just might not be forever. But I think I am truly back to writing, so keep your eyes out for an update.
